Hotel Djenne Djenno

I went to Djenné in Mali for a holiday with friends for Christmas and New Year 2005-2006. I fell in love with this ancient city and returned later to build a hotel in the traditional mud architecture of Djenné, a UNESCO Word Heritage site. The hotel had 14 rooms, a restaurant and a bar. Djenné was a popular destination while Mali was an up and coming tourist destination, and the hotel flourished until the coup of 2012 and the subsequent Jihadist occupation of the northern part of the country. After the liberation of the north by the combined forces of France and Mali in 2013 the country has never recovered its former attraction as a tourist destination and in July 2017 I finally gave up the hotel and moved back to London.
